If you love landscape and wildlife art you're in for a treat!!!
Meet the wonderfully talented Cambridgeshire Artist Jamie Sugg who will make any landscape come to life and will show you intricate angles of wildlife captured through his drawing and painting that will you stunned!
Looking at his paintings, you will simply drift away and get lost in awe of the beauty presented to you on canvas. The extreme clarity and intensity of bold colours used in each painting with the aid of brushes, palette knives, credit cards and pencils bring out every feature in the painting creating a sense of movement and emotion in each painting.
Living on the edge of the Fens in Cambridgeshire, Jamie is surrounded by the beautiful vast never-ending skies which are the source of his inspiration. The interaction of light on the flat landscape and the movement of clouds across the sky, combined with an endless search for mark-making and vibrancy, Jamie creates works of bold colour, strong that they capture every aspect of the landscape.
I had the pleasure of learning more about his amazing talent and technique in which he explained that in order to reveal the different layers underneath the marks made on canvas, he has to work through thicker impasto paint until all layers come to life.
You only need to look at these gorgeous paintings to see exactly what he means.
He shared some of his favourites with me and you can buy any of these directly from him by visiting his Instagram account @jamiesuggartist or via his website www.jamiesugg.co.uk
"When the day begins..."
"When the day begins, the birds wake, the breeze reminds us of the season, mixed media on canvas, 60cm x 60cm currently on show at The Last, Norwich and available to purchase from The Digbys https://thedigbysart.com/copy-of-john-sparks-art-at-last
This was created especially for my first major exhibition in Norwich, this painting was inspired by long walks along the Suffolk coast and estuaries near Woodbridge."
- Jamie SuggWhen did Jamie begin painting, I hear you ask? Well, just like any talent or profession, you need to develop it before becoming an expert. He had always known he wanted to be a professional artist, but it took the best of 20yrs before this dream became a reality. He journeyed through careers in reprographics, structural engineering, construction and the National Trust. Then he went through a very difficult period of long-term illness, but it was during this time that he started painting regularly as a way to help him recover and recuperate, gaining his strength back slowly. He's never looked back since!
"Surrender"
"Surrender, mixed media on canvas, 60cm x 60cm, private collection
This painting is now in a private collection and was inspired by the endless skies of the Fens of East Cambridgeshire. Palette knives were used to make the expressive marks in the sky, carefully blending the tones to produce a sense of peace and tranquillity".
- Jamie SuggJamie started completing a few commissions from friends and family which quickly started flooding in and before he knew it, he was starting to lead Art workshops with predominant ones at “Tindall’s” in Newmarket, Local Art Groups and Societies. He then started exhibiting his works of art in galleries and art markets.
Since 2013 Jamie has had his art exhibited in over 18 places including "The Darryl Nantais Gallery", Linton and "The George Farnham" Gallery, Saxmundham.
And here's my favourite piece, the magnificent "Last of the Evening Light".
The richness and explosion of colour in this painting, plus the great detail represented in clouds and flowers, make a viewer feel like they are physically staring out at this glorious endless sky and the beautiful wide open space. This is such an explosion of beauty, you can't deny it will chase any blues away and uplift your spirit.
"Last of the Evening Light (Ely Cathedral)"
"Last of the Evening Light (Ely Cathedral), acrylics on canvas, 72cm x 72cm, private collection
This was the first large painting I created using a more contemporary range of colours and bold marks with a palette knife. It was the catalyst for many new paintings and enabled me to be confident in my work and style for the first time".
- Jamie SuggIf you have a dream and it seems like its far from your reach, keep on dreaming and working towards it because one day, you'll find your silver lining as you "follow the Sky and climb mountains"
